Trikala workshop
Water Management
Cooperation protocol for water management and (spatial) infrastructure planning
Reinforcement of the Pinios River from the Acheloos River, along with the creation of inter-basin connections
Construction of small local dams [Neochoritis, Mouzaki, Pyli of Trikala, Lithaios].
Pricing policy based on the scale of irrigation
Strict supervision and a 25% reduction of the overexploitation of aquifers from boreholes.
Energy – Land Use
Rational management of irrigation water (installation of inverters on borehole electric pumps) and gradual transition to drip irrigation.
Installation of photovoltaic systems, either autonomous (with battery storage) or grid-connected through virtual net metering, via energy communities or municipal companies.
Prohibition of land-use change on high-productivity agricultural land
Crop Management
Gradual discontinuation of irrigation for water-intensive large-scale crops (cotton, maize, alfalfa).
Restructuring of crops from cotton and maize to vegetables, aromatic and medicinal plants, legumes, and tree crops.
Increase of dynamic crops (vegetables, aromatic plants) within the framework of contract farming.
Crop restructuring and implementation of environmentally friendly practices through subsidies (see eco-schemes).
