Larissa workshop II

Water Management

Management without water redistribution, with emphasis on protection from extreme climatic events, based on strict climate crisis mitigation models, and on the formation of agro-ecological zones.

Creation of small stone dams for small-scale irrigation.

Irrigation management based on measurements from smart tools, taking into account soil quality and crop needs.

Promotion of water recycling and treatment from urban wastewater.

Ban on further boreholes and a maximum irrigation depth limit of 100 meters.

Energy – Land Use

Selection of non-irrigated crops.

Designation of high value-added product zones, with a prohibition on land use change within them.

Crop Management

Soil cover on all arable fields to reduce soil erosion.

Increase of soil organic matter and the soil’s capacity to retain water.

Complete ban on the use of agrochemicals to prevent the pollution of water bodies.

Reduction of “water-intensive” crops and transition to rainfed, higher value-added crops such as legumes, chickpeas, oregano, and alternative cereals.

Promotion and support of the cultivation of Greek varieties of protein-rich forage crops (chickpea, fava bean, pea, lupin, etc.).

Selection of rainfed crops and processing of the respective products with emphasis on quality, diversification, and added value (e.g., alternative cereals such as Zea, etc.).

Stricter control of organic product certification and promotion of alternative added-value standards (e.g., biodynamic agriculture).
