Future pathways
Larissa workshop II
Water Management
Irrigation management through the supervision and administrative autonomy of the TOEVs, without strict protocols for the distribution of available water
Reinforcement of the Pinios River Basin from Lake Plastiras up to the environmental limit
Reinforcement of Lake Karla from the Pinios River with the help of pumping stations, without full restoration of the lake
Creation of improvised – semi-permanent (makeshift) dams for local river irrigation
Exploitation (private and public) of groundwater aquifers up to the environmental threshold
Reduction of groundwater irrigation (boreholes) 50% within six years
Irrigation with: closed networks, boreholes
Energy – Land Use
Decoupling the cost of irrigation from the stock market value of electricity and maintaining reduced prices for agricultural electricity.
Absence of central classification of land uses (as high, medium, low).
Crop Management
Selection of crops based on water availability: spontaneous cultivation zones determined by water availability.
Reduction of cotton and maize crops
Enhancement of the production and processing of rainfed crops with added value.
Strengthening and expanding spontaneous zones with: aromatic plants, legumes, permanent crops [tree crops]
Soil and crop management based on subsidy programs (coupled payments, de-nitrification programs, eco-schemes, etc.).
Subsidies based on yield per hectare.
